1. “There was a surplus of money subscribed for the 1939-45 Plaques and this was invested to provide a War memorial Prize awarded annually to the school Vice-Captain."
2. “As an old Johnstonian, I can verify that the School Memorial prize was still being awarded in the late 1950-early 1960s after the school had moved to its present location at Crossgate Moor, Durham" (John Dixon)
3. The school was formed by the amalgamation of three schools in 1979 as Johnston Grammar-Technical School.
