Memorial Description
Triptych with gabled top, approx. 6 feet high by 3 feet wide. The back of the main compartment features a cross carved in half relief on which is a figure of Christ crucified, possibly in ivory. At the top are the words "Pro Patria". On either side of the cross, above the arms, is the quotation. At the bottom, and above a shelf, are the words "Per Crucem ad Lucem" ("Towards the light by way of the cross"). All lettering is incised and gilded.

Notes
1. There used to be doors, on the inside of which it is thought the names were inscribed. The places where the hinges were can be seen, though skilfully filled. It is thought that originally the triptych hung in the porch, and became subject either to weather or vandalism, the doors were removed and the shrine brought into the church.
2. In November 2014 there was in St. George’s Church an old black and white photograph of the original Triptych with the doors.
