Christ Church. Preston Road / Albion Road.
Prayer desk and bench, very plain, approx 1.52m (5 feet) long to accommodate four people. The dedication is in cursive writing on a plaque affixed to the leg of the prayer desk.
1. These items were made for the Seamen’s Chapel of St. Nicholas in 1952. The organ was removed from the chancel and put in the west gallery. The organ chamber was turner into the Seamen’s or Mariners’ Chapel.
2. Of H.M.S. Curacoa Michael Scott says on page 24. “This light cruiser of the Royal Navy was sliced in two by the ocean liner Queen Mary whilst on escort duty across the North Atlantic on 2nd October 1942. A total of 338 men were lost as the liner steamed away, afraid to stop in case it was spotted by u-boats.”
3. H.M.S. Curaçoa was an anti-aircraft ship of 4290 tons.
